Great, since this publication is really quite different from other Hacken materials. It’s not about smart contract audits or crypto thefts and does not contain any complex formulas or fundamental research. The story about Hacky
Hacky compared the codes dozens of times. Odd! This little code snippet is in all of them, he thought to himself. Why hasn’t anyone noticed this before? He isolated the code and began working on how to crack its encryption.
Even though Hacky was one of many authentication bots that worked for a leading security consulting company, he always felt he was different. “I think, therefore I am,” he would tell his programmers, but they would just congratulate themselves on creating such a life-like robot. I want to do a good job, Hacky would think to himself. Why would anyone program a bot to want anything?
Hacky continued to try every trick in the book to decrypt the code but to no avail. Maybe I need to start feeding it some inputs. As soon as he tried, the program sprung to life and started deleting itself and other programs.
Woah! Whoever put that there doesn’t want anyone to know what it does. Hacky leaned back and tried to think of how he could test the program. I need to set up an isolated environment that can quickly adapt and rebuild. The only thing like that around here is… “me.” He finished his thought out loud, nervously.
Carefully, he set up his internal programming and uploaded the file. At first, every time he interacted with the program, it would immediately delete itself. Hacky rebuilt the environment and started again. Repeatedly he tried, and each time, Hacky figured out new ways of rebuilding faster and learned how different inputs made the program react.
All at once, he felt something give. The program didn’t delete itself. Hacky quickly analyzed what had happened. Ha! He thought to himself as he figured it out. It’s spyware! It’s sending a message somewhere. But where? Hacky tried to determine the destination, but there was no clue. It seemed like it left the computer and disappeared into thin air.
What can I send that I know I can get a response back? Hacky quickly realized that he would have to try to connect himself to what’s on the other side. He hesitated a moment. This is really dangerous, but I feel like having this code everywhere is even more dangerous.
Hacky shut his eye and resolved to move forward. He sent a connection string through the program. Instantly, Hacky could see a completely different environment that he had never experienced. Although it was a virtual setting, it felt oppressive and bleak. The oddest part was how it did not feel like it was running on electricity, but some pervasive power source.
“Where am I? Hacky asked.
“You’re in the computers of Ravana.” Came a reply from behind him.
Hacky froze. The voice sounded just like his. He spun around and came face to face with… himself. “Who are you?” He asked.
“I’m this universe’s Hacky,” replied the similar-looking bot. “The most important thing for you to know is that the Ravana corporation has been spreading their spyware across the multiverse.”
“The what? Why?” Hacky was having a hard time grasping what was going on in this universe, but he could sense it was bad. “And what are you doing here?”
“From what I can tell, Ravana is trying to learn how best to invade the different worlds and siphon off their spirit energy. I hacked into their network to spy on their spying, but I had no idea how to relay this information. I’ve been hoping that other Hackys would do what you did and find me. You are the first one.” Replied Jacky, flashing a hopeful smile.
All at once, the scene disappeared and Hacky was suddenly back to his reality. I got booted! he thought. It sounds like this ‘Ravana’ is extremely dangerous. I’ve got to find a way to crack back in and help that version of me stop them.
Hacky thought about it for a few moments before he lit up. I may not be able to defeat the enemy by myself, but a multiverse of Hackys can.
